The technical talk on Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) was a resounding success, with a healthy turnout of attendees eager to learn about the regulatory, infrastructural, and technological aspects of AAM in the Asia-Pacific region. The event featured three distinguished speakers who provided valuable insights into the future of AAM and its implications for urban mobility, transportation, and sustainable aviation.
David Waller, the EASA representative for Singapore, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s approach to AAM and the safe integration of Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft into the aviation system. He addressed the challenges for regulators and the potential of AAM to transform transportation and urban mobility, while acknowledging the regulatory, technical, and societal hurdles that need to be addressed.
Yun Yuan Tay, the Head of Asia Pacific for Skyports, emphasized the need for vertiports and the necessary technology systems to support AAM operations. He highlighted the importance of developing supporting infrastructure, including vertiport management systems, passenger management systems, charging infrastructure, and situation awareness tools.
Derek Cheng, the Head of Commercial Asia-Pacific at Vertical Aerospace, provided valuable insights into eVTOL aircraft technology and the opportunities it presents for sustainable aviation. He discussed the potential applications of eVTOL aircraft, including airport shuttle, inter-city point-to-point travel, tourism, sightseeing, and medical transport, as well as the development of the AAM ecosystem and standards for the adoption of new technology in cities.
