Advanced Air Mobility – eVTOL Technology & Regulatory Standards Development in the Era of Aerospace Innovation

This event aims to provide insights into the regulatory, infrastructural, and technological aspects of AAM, with a focus on the safe integration of eVTOL aircraft into urban mobility systems and the potential societal impact of this emerging mode of transportation.

It will cover the safe integration of Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft into the aviation system, the development of necessary infrastructure, and the opportunities presented by eVTOL technology. The speakers include David Waller, representing the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), who will discuss EASA’s approach to AAM; Yun Yuan Tay from Skyports, who will address the need for vertiports and supporting technology systems; and Derek Cheng from Vertical Aerospace, who will discuss the opportunities presented by eVTOL aircraft technology.

1. AAM (Advanced Air Mobility) and the Regulator
   David Waller is the EASA representative in Singapore and has been with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency since 2004. His presentation will outline EASA’s approach to Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and the safe integration of eVTOL aircraft into the aviation system. This includes an overview of regulations, guidelines, and technical design specifications for vertiports, as well as the challenges for regulators in addressing the potential of AAM to transform transportation and urban mobility.
2. Laying the Foundations for Advanced Air Mobility
   Yun Yuan Tay is the Head of Asia Pacific for Skyports, a global AAM infrastructure developer. With over a decade of experience in aerospace and aviation engineering, Yun will discuss the need for vertiports and the essential technology systems required to support their operations. He will emphasize the importance of developing the necessary infrastructure in parallel with the certification and launch of eVTOL aircraft to facilitate the AAM service.
3. eVTOL aircraft technology, and new opportunities
   Derek Cheng, the Head of Commercial Asia-Pacific at Vertical Aerospace, will discuss the opportunities presented by eVTOL aircraft technology in the context of urban congestion. He will highlight the potential of eVTOL aircraft for sustainable aviation, with applications including airport shuttles, inter-city travel, tourism, medical transport, and more. Cheng will also emphasize the importance of developing the AAM ecosystem and standards for new technology adoption in cities, covering aspects such as vertiport and ground charging infrastructure, airspace management, and operations.
